Principal Investigator:
Lars Rönnblom
Uppsala University was founded in 1477, and it was the first university in Scandinavia. Today more than 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students enroll for classes. Postgraduate education includes 2,000 doctoral students. Its ancient tradition of learning and its outstanding research have earned the University an excellent reputation and a self-evident place in the international research community. The foundation for the successful research achieved in the medical faculty is the close association with the University Hospital which is one of the largest hospitals in Sweden, with more than 1000 beds for patients and more than 300.000 out-patient visits. Professor Lars Rönnbloms research group is located at the research department at the University Hospital with close connection to other research groups, including Professor Ann-Christine Syvänen’s laboratory and the national “SNP technology platform” (www.genotyping.se). The laboratory of Professors Lars Rönnblom and Gunnar Alm has more than 25 years experience in interferon research, with a large number of scientific papers within the field. The laboratory has been involved in both clinical studies and basic research, and has a long experience to coordinate EU projects.
